Memtest is a small but thorough RAM testing utility for Mac OS X. This command-line application is a modified version of Charles Cazabon's distribution of memtester for Linux. Changes to Charles's release have been made in order to build and run Memtest under Mac OS X. Be sure to read the READMEFIRST file included in the download! In light of the issues some are encountering with RAM problems (which may be difficult to diagnose, the usual symptom is general system instability and/or many apps quitting unexpectedly or crashing) after updating to a newer version of OS X, MemTest may be useful to the Mac community. What's New: Version 4.04M is a completely rewritten and enhanced Mac OS X version of Charles Cazabon's original memtester command-line ram testing utility. Version 4.04M is based on memtester 4.0.4 which Charles released late in August. New to version 4.04M is the ability to run Memtest in single-user mode and improved execution speed of the individual tests. Running in single-user mode frees up the maximum amount of available memory for testing and is an enhancement that I've wanted to do for some time. Version 4.04M replaces version 4.03M and improves the reliability of operation in single-user mode compared to that of 4.03M as well as incorporating minor additions made by Charles to his Linux version 4.0.4. Many thanks to Charles for his efforts to improve cross-platform compatibility of the memtester source code, making it possible for me to deliver single-user mode operation for Mac OS X. Please review the new README file for detailed information about the new features in Memtest. Feedback and comments are always welcome and help to improve the usefulness of this utility for the entire Macintosh community. | |
