Wings is a relational database that manages bird records. Actually, it can manage pretty much most kinds of biological record keeping - it was simply designed with birds in mind. So what can Wings do? It can do the usual things: Store sightings data and the supporting taxonomic, location, observer and source data Perform data entry one record at a time Manage millions of records Search and sort Manage multiple checklists Import and export Create columnar reports. It can also do a few amazing things: Allow very rapid data entry using checklists Create spreadsheet reports Create reports in the form of checklists Create charts and occurrence charts Allow you to create your own categories of data and associate that data with species, locations or sightings Save selections of records that can be loaded very quickly in later sessions Has built-in spreadsheet, charting, drawing and statistics modules What's New: Version 3.1: Wings now has a multimedia module. Images can be stored and referred to by database records. Lists of images with thumbnails are displayed whenever appropriate. The [Sightings] table, the [Species], and all location tables can link to images. Context-sensitive help has been provided. You can now choose species from a list during [Sightings] data entry. Click on the green button by species code. There have been substantial enhancements to the Trips module including: the addition of Trip Summaries, which allow you to group trips, improved context-sensitive documentation, and the ability to use Quick Add to add locations, sources, observers and trip summaries. Exporting from input forms to the built-in Spreadsheet module has been made dramatically faster. Also, the size limit for the input form list displays has been increased from 500 to 5000. When a record was deleted while viewing the input form, the record's related many records were not deleted. Keyboard shortcuts were added for the Data Entry By Checklist form. The shortcuts are: Enter | |
